Light rain across various parts of the provincial capital on Thursday brought a wave of relief for residents facing intense heat and humidity over the past week. The light showers turned the weather pleasant and prompted the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) to remain on high alert to prevent any urban flooding.

According to the Meteorological Department, the highest rainfall recorded was two millimetres in Paniwala Talab. Other areas such as Gulberg, Upper Mall, and Tajpura saw one millimetre each. These scattered showers played a crucial role in reducing the temperature and easing the oppressive weather conditions.

In anticipation of more rain, WASA officials have taken several preventive measures. Instructions have been issued to ensure all disposal stations remain fully functional throughout the rain spell. The Vice Chairman of WASA directed field teams to keep pumping stations running continuously, particularly in low-lying areas prone to waterlogging. Emphasis was placed on maintaining backup power systems, with all generators ordered to be kept ready to ensure immediate response during electricity outages.

The Managing Director of WASA also conducted a review of the city’s drainage preparedness. Zonal heads have been instructed to be present in the field during rainfall to oversee and manage any emergency situations effectively.

The Meteorological Office has forecast continued light to moderate rainfall in the coming hours, especially in the eastern and northern parts of the city. Citizens are advised to monitor weather updates and avoid unnecessary travel in areas with known drainage issues.

This proactive approach by WASA aims to mitigate potential disruptions and ensure the city remains safe and functional amid the ongoing weather changes.
