Owners Demand Market Rate for Balakot Power Project Land
Residents of Mansehra have asked market-rate compensation for land being taken for the 300-megawatt Balakot hydropower project.
The landowners threatened to march to the streets to assert their rights if the demand was not honored.
Another committee member, Arshad Hussain, stated that the acquisition of approximately 8,000 Kanals of the property was in its final stages but that the people were uninformed of the price offered to them for their land, houses, trees, and other things to be bought for the project.

According to Mr. Hussain, the Balakot assistant commissioner had indicated that locals would be assigned to non-technical and labor positions in compliance with the country’s regulations, but no action was taken in response to this pronouncement.
