Pak, China Pledge to Develop Gwadar Free Zone
Pakistan and China, CPEC partners, have agreed to contribute to the construction of the Gwadar Free Zone and port city, according to recent reports from Islamabad. Both parties also agreed to begin Phase II of the Gwadar Free Zone, which will cover an area of 2,221 acres.

During meetings established by Chinese and Pakistani officials on two Joint Working Groups (JWG) on Gwadar and Socioeconomic Development, the commitments were made. The discussions were attended by members of the executive council from both sides. One of the discussions was on the significance of the Free Zone Marketing and Investment Plan and its implementation approach.

According to the specifics, the Gwadar Free Zone plan would be presented to the Cabinet Committee on the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). It was stated that this plan will solve problems regarding project investment and the streamlining of the current investment policy.

Both parties were pleased with the steady progress made on a number of projects, including the full operationalization of the Gwadar Port and its inclusion in the Afghan Transit Trade route, the completion of the Pak-China Technical and Vocational Institute, significant progress on the Eastbay Expressway, and the beginning of construction on the New Gwadar International Airport and the Pak-China Friendship Hospital.
