PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Afridi has launched a Rs. 7.2 billion road improvement programme covering 19 major roads and routes across Peshawar.
The Key Roads and Routes Upgradation Project is part of Phase-I of the wider Peshawar Revitalisation Plan and will focus on road rehabilitation, improvement and beautification. The selected routes include Dalazak Road, Hashtnagri Road, Faqirabad Road, Kohat Road, Bara Road, University Road, Ring Road connections and roads around Hayatabad.
Rs. 2.1 Billion Underpass Also Launched
The chief minister also inaugurated the Rs. 2.1 billion Pishtakhara Chowk Underpass, bringing the combined value of the two projects to Rs. 9.3 billion.
The underpass is designed to improve traffic flow at the busy intersection and has been given a three-month completion target. It will be named after Shaheed Fayyaz Khalil.
Part of Rs. 200 Billion Revitalisation Plan
The road programme forms part of the broader Rs. 200 billion Peshawar Revitalisation Plan, which includes infrastructure projects covering roads, sanitation, water supply and other urban services.
Afridi directed authorities to maintain construction quality, transparency and project timelines. However, no specific completion date has been announced for the 19-road upgrade package.
The planned improvements could enhance connectivity for residential and commercial areas along major corridors, although the actual impact will depend on timely completion and quality of construction.
