Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has welcomed the resumption of direct flights between Lahore and Baku by Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), marking a major step forward in enhancing tourism and regional connectivity. The direct route, relaunched after a two-year break, is expected to boost bilateral ties between Pakistan and Azerbaijan, opening new doors for trade, travel, and cultural exchange.

The inaugural flight took off from Lahore on Sunday and was captained by Ms. Shahida Ismail, a moment celebrated as a symbol of women’s growing role in Pakistan’s aviation industry. The prime minister praised the development, calling it a proud moment and a positive sign of Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening its international partnerships.

Officials believe that the direct Lahore-Baku connection will make travel easier for tourists and business travelers, encouraging more frequent exchanges between the two nations. Azerbaijan has become an increasingly popular destination for Pakistani travelers, and the revival of this route is expected to support the growth of tourism from both sides.

The resumption of this flight is seen as part of broader efforts by Pakistan to expand its international aviation network and deepen strategic relations with regional partners. With the growing demand for convenient international travel, this route is likely to play a key role in strengthening economic and diplomatic ties between Pakistan and Azerbaijan.

The move also aligns with Pakistan’s vision of improved regional connectivity, as direct air links are essential for promoting trade, tourism, and people-to-people connections. The new development has been welcomed by the travel industry and is expected to benefit both countries in the long term.
