PR Seeks Rs 23 Billion to Upgrade Vulnerable Tracks
Railways Minister Azam Swati stated that 23 billion rupees had been requested from Prime Minister Imran Khan for the upgrading of the 473-kilometer vulnerable track, and that the government will control the mafia “at any cost.”

In his briefing to the panel of the upper house, Swati blamed improper practises for the current situation of his ministry, stating that (in the past) nominations were prioritised over a business plan.
The minister asserted that there were also mafias in the media and that some railways police and officials were involved in seizing government land. He credited the top justice of the Supreme Court for his efforts to regain railroad land.
In explaining the condition of his ministry, he disclosed that the repair shops were incapable of repairing rail carriages. “If coaches are serviced in repair shops, they will derail,” he added.
The minister of railways reported that the prime minister had taken note of the theft of electricity worth $2.5 billion. He stated that the government was attempting to prevent such thefts, but it appears the railway mafia and Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) are working together.

After the tragedy, the rail track was not in good shape, he said, adding that the ministry was operating on a war footing per the directions of the prime minister. Swati stated, “We have requested Rs23 billion from Prime Minister Imran Khan to upgrade 473 kilometres of deteriorating rail track.”
