Property Survey Underway in Rawalpindi to Broaden Tax Net
Earlier reports indicated that the Punjab Excise, Taxation, and Narcotics Control (ET&N) Department had initiated a property survey in the Rawalpindi division in an effort to expand the tax net.
The survey is being done in 19 union councils to document new and historic residential and commercial structures.
Specialized teams have been formed under the direction of local excise inspectors to document and record newly constructed dwelling units, municipal corporation buildings, and commercial properties.
Beginning in January 2022, all business activities conducted in residential premises, including beauty salons, department stores, tuition centers, and small businesses, will be categorized as commercial and subject to additional taxes.

In addition to warehouses, mini-factories, stores, tailor shops, confectioneries, production units, small and large shops, and other commercial establishments, the survey will document warehouses, mini-factories, stores, tailor shops, confectioneries, and production units.
According to sources, the agency intends to tax 5-marla residences with a rented first or second floor that were previously exempt. The completion of the survey by the end of December is anticipated to increase tax collection by 35 percent.
