The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has dismissed a fake notification circulating on social media that falsely claims mobile device taxes can now be paid in installments.
In an official clarification, the PTA stated that it did not issue the notification and urged the public not to trust or share unverified information circulating online.
The regulator emphasized that the assessment, collection, and enforcement of taxes and duties on mobile devices are the sole responsibility of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR). PTA clarified that it has no authority to determine, announce, or collect these taxes.
According to the authority, its role is limited to the registration and compliance management of mobile devices through the Device Identification, Registration and Blocking System (DIRBS).
PTA also noted that its only recent public announcement related to the scheduled maintenance of the DIRBS platform, during which some registration services may have been temporarily unavailable.
The authority advised citizens to verify information through its official communication channels and avoid relying on or sharing misleading social media posts regarding mobile device taxes or DIRBS-related matters.
