The Punjab government has proposed an underground parking plaza between Data Darbar and Bhatti Gate in Lahore to address persistent parking problems in one of the city’s busiest areas.
The proposed project will be constructed on 22 kanals of land and has been submitted to the Punjab chief minister for approval.
The Lahore Development Authority (LDA) and Traffic Engineering and Planning Agency (TEPA) have estimated the project cost at more than Rs. 8.225 billion. The LDA director general has also requested approval to include the project in the development program for the current financial year and allocate funds for its construction.

Three-Level Underground Parking Facility
The proposed parking plaza will feature three underground levels equipped with modern facilities, including an intelligent transportation system (ITS), automated parking technology, and electric vehicle charging stations.
The facility is expected to provide parking space for approximately 600 cars and 1,700 motorcycles. It will serve visitors to Data Darbar as well as residents, businesses, and other visitors in the surrounding areas.
Project to Follow Data Darbar Upgrades
According to sources, the parking project is being proposed following the Bhati Underpass and Data Darbar upgrade initiatives.
The Punjab government is also considering assigning construction responsibilities to TEPA instead of the LDA Engineering Wing.

The project will move forward after receiving approval from the relevant authorities. If approved, the underground facility could help ease congestion and reduce parking pressure in the densely populated area surrounding Data Darbar and Bhatti Gate.
