LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has announced a special incentives package for local and international investors while giving in-principle approval for the establishment of a Green Industrial Economic Zone in the province.
The decision was made during a meeting with a delegation of the Overseas Pakistanis Foundation (OPF) led by Chairman Syed Qamar Raza. The delegation presented details of the proposed project, which is planned through a partnership between OPF and Green Energy Group.
Focus on Clean Energy and Industrial Growth
The proposed economic zone will focus on clean energy, industrial development, exports and employment generation. Its energy infrastructure is expected to include solar, wind, hydropower and ground-source energy, supported by battery storage and high-voltage backup systems.
Officials said the reliable renewable energy supply will help industries operate more efficiently while supporting Punjab’s environmental and sustainability objectives.
The project is expected to generate more than 18,000 direct and indirect jobs and contribute over PKR 5.6 billion in annual revenue. It is also expected to support environmentally friendly exports and contribute towards Pakistan’s broader net-zero ambitions.
Punjab Seeks to Attract Investors
Maryam Nawaz said Punjab is prepared to welcome investment from both local and foreign businesses and assured investors of government support.
She highlighted the province’s Zero Time to Start policy, which aims to reduce delays in launching businesses, along with a one-window system designed to simplify approvals and administrative procedures.
The chief minister said the government is focused on removing unnecessary barriers and creating a secure, business-friendly investment environment.
If implemented as planned, the Green Industrial Economic Zone could strengthen Punjab’s position as a hub for green industries, renewable energy, manufacturing and international trade, while creating new employment and investment opportunities.
