The Planning Commission has approved the PC-1 worth Rs. 4.8 billion for the Thallian Interchange, a key component of the Rawalpindi Ring Road project.

The interchange forms part of the broader Rawalpindi Ring Road scheme, whose total estimated cost, including the Thallian segment, stands at Rs. 51.4 billion.

Officials said the interchange will be executed in the project’s second phase, alongside a proposed two-lane motorway link road beyond Thallian, which will be constructed by the National Highway Authority (NHA).

According to sources, the Thallian Interchange is being considered a critical extension of the Ring Road as it will significantly improve onward connectivity once the full infrastructure is completed. However, it will not be included in the initial operational phase of the project.

Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) officials confirmed that sufficient funds have been allocated within the overall project cost for acquiring additional land required for the interchange.

Meanwhile, authorities stated that construction work on the main 38.6-kilometer Rawalpindi Ring Road alignment is about 85% complete, and the route is expected to be opened for traffic by mid-June, though without the Thallian Interchange at the initial stage.
