RAWALPINDI: The Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) has initiated action against the online promotion of Signature City Housing Scheme, formerly known as Century Town, in Mouza Gurha Bherta and Begga Sheikha.
According to an RDA spokesperson, the housing scheme is classified as illegal and was being marketed through digital platforms without approval from the relevant authority. The promotional activity reportedly included social media, WhatsApp, YouTube and other online channels.
Legal Action Over Unauthorized Promotion
The RDA has initiated legal proceedings against the individuals concerned and issued a notice under Section 12(5) of the applicable law.
The authority has also referred the matter to the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) in Rawalpindi, seeking action over the alleged unauthorized online advertisements under the relevant laws and regulations.
The move reflects the growing focus of development authorities on digital marketing of housing projects, where online advertisements can reach potential buyers even when a scheme has not secured the required approvals.
Approval Required Before Housing Scheme Advertising
The RDA spokesperson cited Rule 46(1) of the Punjab Development Authorities Private Housing Scheme Rules, 2021, which restricts housing scheme sponsors from advertising or offering plots and housing units for sale through print, electronic or other media without obtaining prior approval from the competent authority.
The case highlights the importance of checking a housing scheme’s regulatory status before responding to advertisements or making payments.
Prospective buyers should verify the scheme’s approved layout plan, NOC, land status and development permissions with the relevant authority before entering into a property transaction.
