Rs 619.7m Released to Pay Mosque Imams and Minority Clerics
The government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has announced the release of Rs 619.7 million for the distribution of stipends to mosque imams and religious leaders of minorities throughout the province.

In the notification issued by the finance department, it is said that they agreed to give Rs 619.7 million through the reappropriation of financial resources as the first half remuneration for prayer leaders and minority leaders for the fiscal year 2021-22.
According to his announcement, the government has compiled and verified the information of more than 6,500 religious leaders and will pay each of them a monthly compensation of Rs 10,000.
The CM’s secretary stated that the government had previously registered approximately 22,000 religious leaders throughout the province, but in January of this year, it decided to review the information collected in the 1st phase, including the identification card numbers and bank accounts of approximately 6,500 individuals.

In a statement issued today, Government spokesperson Kamran Khan Bangash stated that, following the Ehsaas programmes, the Naya Pakistan Housing Scheme, and the Sehat Card, the launch of the stipend initiative brought Pakistan one step closer to becoming a truly Islamic social state.
The leader of the JUI-F, Maulana Fazlur Rehman, criticised the effort, claiming that it was part of the western goal for the country and an attempt to pay religious leaders.
