Tarin Invites American Enterprises to Invest in SEZs
The federal minister of finance and revenue of Pakistan, Shaukat Tarin, has encouraged American enterprises to take advantage of the tremendous opportunities given by Pakistan’s Special Economic Zones (SEZs).
He made these remarks at a round table conversation hosted by the United States Pakistan Business Council in Washington, D.C. (USPBC). Representatives of the US Chamber of Commerce, leading corporations, the governor of the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), Reza Baqir, the finance secretary, and the Pakistani ambassador to the US were present at the conference.
The administration is exerting significant effort to attract foreign investments, the finance minister emphasized. All obstacles are being eliminated, and full support is being provided for the goal. As an example, he cited MetLife, whose lengthy problem had now been resolved.
The finance minister continued by stating that the administration is committed to fostering a business-friendly climate for international investors and entrepreneurs.

He acknowledged the significant role that the World Bank has played in Pakistan’s institutional transformations over the years to improve governance and service delivery.
The World Bank acknowledged that significant progress has been made in implementing structural improvements in a number of sectors, but stressed that momentum must be sustained to achieve the anticipated growth objectives.
