ECC Approved RS 300m Grant for Balochistan Joint Border
The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the Cabinet has approved a budget of 300 million rupees for the construction of three shared border markets in Balochistan.
The ECC meeting, headed by Finance Minister Shaukat Tarin, authorised the Commerce Ministry’s request to transfer Rs 300 million from the Ministry of Railways’ budget to the Commerce Division via a technical supplementary grant in order to build cooperative border markets with Iran and Afghanistan.

According to reports, the Commerce Ministry informed the audience that the decision to create joint border markets with Iran and Afghanistan was made at a meeting presided over by Prime Minister Imran Khan on September 17, 2020. The group decided to establish a total of eighteen border markets, of which six would be situated entirely in Balochistan near the Pakistan-Iran border.
In the initial phase, two pilot projects were required to be implemented in Gabd and Mond, Baluchistan. Later, on April 23, 2021, the list of pilot projects was expanded to include a border market in Chedgi-Kohak, Panjgur District, at another meeting presided over by the prime minister.
The ECC was requested to approve a Rs300 million technical supplementary grant from Pakistan Railway’s PSDP allocation to the Commerce Division for the establishment of joint border markets in Mand, District Kech, Gabd, District Gwadar, and Chedgi, District Panjgur, each project costing Rs100 million.

The ECC also sanctioned a technical additional grant of Rs 98.700 billion to satisfy the needs of the Frontier Corps KP (South), DI Khan, under the Interior Division. The ECC also sanctioned a technical grant of Rs 25 million for the Interior Division’s Pakistan Rangers headquarters in Islamabad.
