Donald J. Trump on Friday thanked Shehbaz Sharif and Asim Munir in a series of posts on his platform, Truth Social, following Iran’s decision to reopen the Strait of Hormuz for all maritime traffic.
In his statement, Trump said Iran had “agreed to never close the Strait of Hormuz again,” describing the vital shipping route as no longer being used “as a weapon against the world.”
In a separate post, he expressed appreciation for Pakistan’s leadership, writing: “Thank you to Pakistan and its great Prime Minister and Field Marshal, two fantastic people!!!”
The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most critical oil transit chokepoints, and any developments regarding its accessibility have major global economic and geopolitical implications.
Earlier, Iran’s Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi announced on X that, in line with a ceasefire in Lebanon, commercial shipping through the Strait would remain fully open for the duration of the ceasefire under designated routes coordinated by Iranian authorities.
