Uzbekistan to Launch Gas-to-Liquids Plant Within Months
The Central Asian country will be able to use its substantial natural gas reserves to produce more fuels like diesel, which it currently imports as a result of declining crude oil output and insufficient refinery capacity, thanks to the $3.6 billion plant, which was initially scheduled to go online in 2020.

According to project contractor Enter Engineering, the second half of this year will see the opening of Uzbekistan’s first gas-to-liquids (GTL) facility.

The launch ceremony is set for the second half of this year, according to a statement from Enter Engineering. “Despite the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020, the project has implementation of planned works presently standing at 95.3%,” the company said in an email.
When the project was started in 2018, the plant’s management estimated that it will refine 3.6 billion cubic meters of gas annually and create 1.5 million tonnes of gasoline.
