Budget 2023 Islamabad to Get Rs 2.2bn for Development Projects
Islamabad: According to a news source on June 10, the federal government has earmarked PKR 2.2 billion for the ongoing Islamabad Development Package in budget 2023–24 to improve the city’s rural districts.
According to the news source, PKR 2.2 billion has been allotted under the Islamabad Development Package to carry out development work in the city’s numerous rural union councils. The proposed projects cover a wide range of activities, including street paving, road rehabilitation, and water supply plans, in addition to sanitation and road improvements. The project is planned to cost PKR 9.4 billion in total, of which PKR 4,856 million is anticipated to be spent by June 30 of this year.

In addition to this current development programme, the government has made the decision to start development projects worth PKR 10 billion in the rural parts of Islamabad in cooperation with the Capital Development Authority (CDA). Tenders have been opened for the allocated tasks, and the project’s first phase, worth PKR 2.5 billion, is already under way.
The Rawal Lake Water Treatment Project is yet another big undertaking that is funded in the budget for 2023–2024. The Korang River and Rawal Lake Water Treatment Plant is anticipated to cost PKR 6 billion in total, it has been disclosed. To stop tainted water from entering the reservoir, the CDA intends to build three sewage treatment facilities in the Rawal Dam catchment region.

Additionally, the federal government has budgeted PKR 29 million for a feasibility study to be conducted on additional Metro Bus lines from Bhara Kahu to Faizabad and Faizabad to Rawat. At the moment, the Metro bus service runs in regular traffic from Bhara Kahu to Pims and from Koral to Pims, but under temporary arrangements. On the stated routes, the government does plan to build specialised metro bus services with their own corridors.
A project worth PKR 278 million has reportedly been finalised for the feasibility study, and the CDA has been given PKR 29 million for this reason. The CDA will move forward with the building of defined corridors for the metro bus service, comparable to the Rawalpindi-Islamabad Metro Bus Service, after the feasibility study is finished.
A small sum has been allotted under the Public Sector Development Programme (PDSP) for the ongoing 10th Avenue and Sihala flyover projects. A total of PKR 400 million has been allocated for the 10th Avenue project, which will cost PKR 12 billion. A total of PKR 405 million has been allocated for the Sihala flyover project, which would cost PKR 9.5 billion to complete.
