GILGIT: Gilgit-Baltistan Chief Minister Amjad Hussain has called for urgent safety measures on the Baltistan Highway to reduce the risks faced by motorists and travelers.
He made the remarks during a meeting focused on preventing traffic accidents and landslide-related incidents along the highway. The chief minister stressed the importance of keeping the route safe for residents, tourists and other road users.

Hussain directed the National Highway Authority (NHA) and Frontier Works Organization (FWO) to strengthen safety arrangements along vulnerable sections of the road. He said frequent landslides were creating difficulties for travelers and could affect safe movement along the route.
The chief minister said Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had also directed relevant authorities to support safe travel on the important highway. He called for the required measures to be implemented on an urgent basis.
The meeting also highlighted the wider economic importance of Gilgit-Baltistan. Hussain said the region has investment potential in sectors including tourism and energy.

Separately, Special Investment Facilitation Council Secretary Jameel Ahmed Qureshi met the chief minister and briefed him on efforts to attract international investment. The discussion covered tourism, energy and other sectors considered important for the region’s economic development.
Officials are expected to coordinate on safety and infrastructure measures as authorities work to improve conditions along the highway. Further action will depend on the implementation of the directives by the relevant departments.
