FAISALABAD: The Faisalabad Development Authority (FDA) has proposed a major remodelling plan for Canal Road from Abdullahpur Chowk to Gatwala to improve traffic flow, road safety and connectivity along one of the city’s key transport corridors.
The proposal was discussed at a meeting chaired by Commissioner Faisalabad Dr Imran Hamid Sheikh. FDA engineers prepared the plan after conducting a technical and traffic engineering study to identify areas where changes could improve movement and reduce congestion.
Two Bridges and New U-Turns Proposed
Under the proposed Faisalabad Canal Road remodelling plan, the FDA has recommended construction of two new bridges and two additional U-turns along the road.
The plan also proposes removing 10 existing ramps considered unnecessary and constructing four new ramps to improve connections between Canal Road and its service roads.
The changes are aimed at better organising entry and exit points while allowing traffic to move more smoothly along the busy route.
Improved Link to Canal Expressway
The proposal also includes measures to improve connectivity between Samundri Road and Canal Expressway.
Access points along Canal Road would be reorganised as part of the proposed traffic management measures, potentially making movement between major roads more efficient.
Officials from the FDA, Municipal Corporation, traffic police and other relevant departments attended the meeting.
The proposal will be reviewed in coordination with the concerned departments, while traffic management requirements will be assessed before implementation.
For residents, daily commuters and businesses, the proposed remodelling could improve accessibility and traffic movement along an important Faisalabad corridor. Better road connectivity may also support wider residential and commercial development in areas connected to Canal Road.
