PESHAWAR: The district administration has demolished dozens of shops in Garhi Qamar Din along Peshawar’s Ring Road as part of an anti-encroachment operation carried out jointly with the Peshawar Development Authority (PDA).

During the operation, teams used heavy machinery to remove structures identified by officials as encroachments on designated road space. The drive aims to clear obstructions, restore road boundaries and improve traffic movement along Ring Road and surrounding areas.

Newly appointed Deputy Commissioner Afaq Wazir said the campaign would continue until encroachments along the road and nearby locations were cleared. He also directed the relevant departments to ensure that removed structures were not rebuilt illegally.

The administration said the operation forms part of broader efforts to address traffic difficulties and improve access for commuters. It has urged residents and shopkeepers to cooperate with the authorities and avoid occupying roads, footpaths and other public passageways.

Officials have also stressed the need for continued monitoring after the demolition work to prevent new encroachments from emerging in cleared areas.

The operation highlights the administration’s efforts to keep major roads accessible and reduce obstructions that can affect daily travel. Further enforcement action is expected to depend on the progress of the campaign and the authorities’ efforts to maintain cleared public spaces.
