ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has announced action against approximately 150 housing societies described as illegal in Islamabad, highlighting the government’s focus on unauthorised developments and the recovery of illegally occupied public land.

The statement was reported on October 21, 2026. During a visit to Malpur and Bhara Kahu, the minister also directed officials to take steps to recover government land under illegal occupation.

Naqvi referred to approximately 108 kanals of occupied government property and warned that officials who allowed encroachments could also face accountability. However, the reported details do not identify the land involved or specify which officials may be subject to further action.

The minister’s statement has renewed attention on the approval status of housing schemes operating in and around the federal capital. However, a complete list of the approximately 150 societies was not included in the available reports. Buyers should therefore verify the status of individual projects through the Capital Development Authority (CDA) rather than relying solely on the reported figure.

The announcement also highlights the importance of checking planning approvals and relevant No Objection Certificates (NOCs), where required, before investing in residential plots. Purchasing property in an unauthorised scheme can create risks involving development, possession, and transfer of ownership.

For developers and real estate agents, the proposed crackdown reinforces the need to comply with applicable regulations and provide accurate approval information to prospective buyers.

Further official notices identifying the affected housing schemes, details of land recovery operations, and any enforcement measures will help clarify the scope of the government’s action.
