KARACHI: The Mosamiyat Flyover has been inaugurated in Karachi as part of the Red Line Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project. The new flyover is expected to improve traffic movement around the Mosamiyat intersection and support connectivity along the Red Line corridor.
Sindh Senior Minister for Information, Transport and Mass Transit Sharjeel Inam Memon inaugurated the flyover during a visit to the project area. Provincial Minister Saeed Ghani and Karachi Deputy Mayor Salman Abdullah Murad were also present.
Officials briefed the provincial minister about progress on the Red Line corridor and other ongoing construction activities. The flyover is considered an important part of the wider BRT infrastructure being developed in the city.
Memon said the structure would be opened for public traffic after the completion of the required formalities. He indicated that the opening was expected within two days of the inauguration.
The project has faced cost pressures during construction. According to the minister, higher prices of construction materials and other inputs affected the original project estimates. Changes in the exchange rate, cement prices and fuel costs were among the factors contributing to the increased costs.
The provincial government continued work on the project while addressing related issues through discussions with the relevant institutions. Officials also highlighted efforts by the project team to maintain construction progress despite these challenges.
Work on other sections of the Red Line BRT is continuing. This includes the construction of stations and related infrastructure along the corridor. The completion of the Mosamiyat Flyover adds another component to the ongoing transport development in Karachi.
