KARACHI: The Karachi Development Authority (KDA) has launched an anti-encroachment operation in Lines Area to remove illegal obstructions from roads, footpaths, green belts and government land.
According to a KDA press release, the operation was initiated on the directions of Director General Zain-ul-Abideen Ansari under the supervision of Lines Area Project Director Muhammad Umar Farooq and Demolition In-charge Muhammad Ishtiaq.

During the drive, people responsible for encroachments were instructed to remove obstructions voluntarily and vacate government land. KDA teams also cleared an illegally occupied plot as part of the operation.
The authority said the campaign would continue next week and warned that legal action could be taken against those who failed to comply with its directions.
The initiative aims to improve pedestrian access, reduce traffic obstructions and protect public spaces from unauthorised occupation. Encroachments on footpaths and roads can make movement difficult for pedestrians and commuters, while the occupation of green belts can limit the availability of public green spaces.

The KDA has urged residents, shopkeepers and other stakeholders to cooperate with the campaign and avoid using public land for private purposes.
The long-term effectiveness of the operation will depend on regular monitoring and enforcement to prevent cleared areas from being occupied again. The authority has reiterated its commitment to protecting government property and improving the management of public spaces across Karachi.
