NEPRA to Expand Renewable Energy Footprint to 30% by 2031
In the next ten years, the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) wants to increase Pakistan’s renewable energy footprint from the current three percent of its total generation capacity—more than 35,000 MW—to thirty percent.

Tauseef H. Farooqi, the chairman of the NEPRA, spoke during a live webinar on “Pakistan’s Energy Transition and the Road Ahead,” which was organised by K-Electric and the NEPRA. He emphasised the importance of including hydropower, which makes up 30% of the renewable energy mix, if Pakistan is to reach 60 percent of its energy needs in the next ten years.

At the ceremony, K-Chief Electric’s Strategy Officer, Naz Khan, also gave a speech and mentioned that the company currently uses about 250 MW of renewable energy, but that with the addition of the new projects, that amount will increase to 350 MW.
