The Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) has approved a loan worth $320.16 million for the reconstruction and rehabilitation of important sections of Pakistan’s N-5 Highway under the country’s resilient recovery infrastructure program.

The financing agreement was signed by Economic Affairs Secretary Muhammad Humair Karim Kidwai and AIIB Chief Investment Officer Konstantin Limitovskiy. In addition, a separate implementation agreement was finalized between the AIIB and the National Highway Authority (NHA).

The approved funding will support Phase-IA of the “Reconstruction of National Highway N-5” project, which aims to restore and upgrade major stretches of the highway passing through Sindh, Punjab, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The N-5 Highway is considered Pakistan’s primary transportation corridor and plays a vital role in connecting key economic and commercial regions across the country.

According to officials, the project is designed to improve climate-resilient infrastructure, strengthen regional connectivity, and support long-term economic activity and trade growth.

The government stated that the initiative reflects continued cooperation between Pakistan and the AIIB while contributing to the country’s broader efforts toward sustainable and resilient infrastructure development.
