Pakistan to Complete Afghan Border Fencing by August 14
Islamabad: Pakistan declared that the fencing along the Afghan border would be finished by August 14 amid worries that a fresh refugee crisis in Afghanistan as a result of the unrest in the neighbouring nation.

The majority of Afghans have fled their country towards Iran to the west and Pakistan to the east due to decades of violence.
According to figures from the UN refugee agency at the beginning of the year, 1.4 million Afghan refugees reside in Pakistan, while almost a million do so in Iran.

Sheikh Rashid Ahmed, the interior minister, stated during a news conference in Islamabad that the fencing along the Afghan border would be finished by August 14 and that 46 to 48 percent of the fencing along the border with Iran had also been completed.
Rashid urged these visitors to depart Pakistan by August 14 if they wanted to avoid paying a charge. He also said that those who renewed their visas online would not be penalised.
