Private Housing Societies Polluting Small Dams in Islamabad
Islamabad: While Covid-19 is at its height, poorly designed settlements and private housing societies are contaminating the water in small dams in the federal capital and nearby towns, leading to serious problems like the spread of illnesses like hepatitis and gastroenteritis in addition to contaminating the underground water.

The appropriate authorities have learned that several private housing societies and other towns were pouring their sewage and solid waste into the dams.
After Eidul Fitr, the administration of the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) and other authorities have planned an operation to halt waste water from leaking into tiny dams.
To help the locals in Islamabad and neighboring cities with their needs for drinking water and agriculture, a number of minor dams were built. The Punjab government’s Small Dams Organization (SDO) is in charge of them.

According to the deputy commissioner, SDO is in charge of dams and their water, while the CDA is in charge of the lands around dams, including all private housing complexes.
Similar to this, privately owned housing societies and housing projects close to dams will need to have their own water filtration facilities to prevent sewage and waste from being dumped into the dams.
