LAHORE: The Punjab cabinet has approved Rs60 billion to provide 40,000 housing loans under the Apni Chhat Apna Ghar scheme through the Bank of Punjab, in a move aimed at supporting access to affordable housing across the province.
The decision was reported on October 20, 2026. Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz also rejected a proposal to impose stamp duty under the scheme, potentially reducing transaction-related costs for eligible beneficiaries.

The approved funding is intended to expand access to housing finance for people seeking to build or secure their own homes. The allocation of Rs60 billion for 40,000 loans represents an average of Rs1.5 million per loan, although the actual amount available to each applicant has not been specified.
The government has not yet provided full details about eligibility requirements, individual loan limits, interest rates, repayment periods or the application process. Applicants will need to wait for official guidelines from the provincial government and the Bank of Punjab before determining whether they qualify.

The decision on stamp duty is another important aspect of the announcement, as it could help reduce certain costs associated with transactions under the programme. However, details about other applicable fees and charges have not been announced.
The scheme could provide additional support to eligible households seeking affordable housing in Punjab. Its impact will depend on the implementation process, the release of loans and the terms offered to beneficiaries. Prospective applicants should follow official announcements for updates on registration, eligibility and loan disbursement.
