LAHORE: The Punjab Excise and Taxation Department is set to begin a province-wide recovery campaign against property tax defaulters from October 1, 2026. The department has given property owners until September 30 to clear outstanding dues under the available relief period.

Property owners were offered a 5 percent concession for paying their outstanding property tax within the specified deadline. The concession period is scheduled to end before the enforcement campaign begins.

The recovery drive will cover property tax defaulters across Punjab. Officials are expected to focus particularly on cases involving long-standing unpaid dues.

Commercial properties with prolonged tax arrears may face stronger enforcement measures. These could include sealing action where applicable under the relevant tax rules and procedures.

The campaign is part of the department’s wider efforts to improve tax recovery and meet its revenue collection target of Rs125 billion. The authorities are also seeking to improve compliance among property owners with outstanding liabilities.

Property owners who have unpaid taxes should verify their outstanding balance and payment status with the relevant Excise and Taxation office. They should also retain payment receipts and other records after clearing their dues.

The enforcement campaign could also have implications for property transactions. Buyers considering residential or commercial properties in Punjab may need to check whether any outstanding property tax liabilities are attached to the property before completing a transaction.

The department’s planned action from October 1 marks the next phase of the ongoing recovery effort. The extent of enforcement will depend on individual cases, outstanding liabilities and the applicable legal procedures.
