Reconstruction of Old GT Road Starts
Gujrat: At the Kathala railway crossing, where the road was in the poorest condition, the contractor has begun work on reconstructing the old, deteriorated GT Road.
Since the major thoroughfare is lined with hundreds of industrial buildings, the people, particularly the businesses, have been calling for its rehabilitation.
In addition, Gujrat city has been growing toward the Kathala railway crossing near the bridge over the Chenab River, necessitating road renovation.
Since these locations had previously served as the city’s primary entrances and exits, Deputy Commissioner Mehtab Waseem Azhar stated that the road will be built from Kathala Chenab to Rehmania Bridge and over the Bhimbher stormwater channel.

On the proposal of Federal Minister for Water Resources Moonis Elahi, the Punjab government has approved the repair of the road. Cost of the project is Rs. 1 billion.
The project had originally received an amount of Rs250m from Punjab’s yearly development budget. If the necessary funds were granted on schedule, the project might take at least a year to complete, according to the relevant authorities.
