KARACHI: Association of Builders and Developers of Pakistan (ABAD) Chairman Muhammad Hanif Gohar has criticised delays in the commercialisation of 26 roads in Karachi, alleging that corruption and administrative obstacles are preventing builders from obtaining the required approvals.
Speaking at a ceremony organised by the Diplomatic Business Club to honour ABAD’s newly elected office-bearers, Gohar said the commercialisation process had remained stalled despite Supreme Court directions. He claimed that no builder had yet succeeded in commercialising a plot on the affected roads.
The ABAD chairman urged the relevant authorities to implement the court’s orders and resolve the issue according to the law. He also called for a transparent process that allows eligible builders and developers to complete the required formalities without facing demands for bribes.

Gohar further raised concerns about extortion and illegal land grabbing in Karachi, saying these issues create difficulties for residents, traders and businesses operating in the construction sector. He called on the government and law enforcement agencies to protect lawful commercial activities.
Separately, Gohar expressed concern over the school roof collapse in Peshawar’s Dir Colony. He stressed the importance of structural safety audits for schools, hospitals and office buildings, urging authorities to inspect unsafe buildings and take preventive measures.
The commercialisation issue remains important for Karachi’s property sector, as delays in approvals can affect development plans and investment decisions. The next key step will be a response from the relevant authorities and clarification on how the Supreme Court’s directions will be implemented for the 26 roads.
