The Punjab Excise and Taxation Department is set to launch a province-wide crackdown on token tax and property tax defaulters from October 1, 2026.

Vehicle owners have until September 30 to clear their outstanding token tax under the regular payment terms. After the deadline, defaulters will be required to pay the outstanding tax along with an equal amount as a penalty, effectively doubling the unpaid token tax.

Property taxpayers have also been given until September 30 to avail themselves of a 5% concession. From October 1, the department will begin stricter recovery measures against those who fail to clear their dues.

According to Excise officials, the enforcement drive will particularly focus on commercial properties that have remained in default for several years. Long-term commercial property defaulters may face sealing action as part of the recovery process.

The department has urged vehicle owners and property taxpayers with outstanding dues to make their payments before the deadline to avoid additional penalties and enforcement action.

Motor vehicle taxation in Punjab is administered under provincial laws, while citizens can check and pay their tax dues through the Excise and Taxation Department’s official online services.

The department is also responsible for the collection of urban immovable property tax, as well as motor vehicle registration and taxation across Punjab.

Officials said the intensified recovery campaign is part of efforts to achieve the department’s Rs. 125 billion revenue target and recover outstanding dues from taxpayers.
